AT BAYFIELD: ST. CATHERINE turned back the challenge
of Barbados Youth ‘A’ to triumph by 22 runs.
Following a 20-minute late start because of
preparations to the pitch, St. Catherine were put
under early pressure on 21 for four after they were
sent in with the wickets shared equally by Kemar
Roach and Adrian Caddle.
But a recovery was led by captain Kenroy Williams
and Shawn Sargeant, who added 62 for the fifth
wicket.
After they were parted, Derick Bishop and veteran
Lonelle Huston helped in the fightback before the
last five wickets tumbled for eight runs in a total
of 153 all out in 45 overs.
Man-of-the-Match Williams topscored with 41 which
included three boundaries while Sargeant made 31,
Hutson 28 and Bishop 18.
The impressive Roach took four for 19 off ten overs,
Amal Nurse picked up three for 20 and Caddle, two
for 21.
Barbados Youth ‘A’ also had a disastrous start with
Roger Williams and Carlos Brathwaite falling without
a run scored. There was further trouble when
Jonathan Carter was run out for six with the score
on ten, and then the dismissal of captain Shamarh
Brooks for 15 to pacer Ulric Batson left them on 36
for four.
Opener Rashidi Boucher was standing firm but the
struggle continued and even though Roach hit a
couple lusty blows towards the end in scoring 17,
St. Catherine stood firm to win with 2.4 overs to
spare.
Batson took three for 15 and left-arm spinner Glyne
Strickland picked up three for 27 including the
wicket of Boucher for 38 to take over as the leading
wicket-taker in the tournament with 20 scalps.
