ZONE ‘A’

AT THE BREWERY: EMPIRE again proved their dominance with a 78-run victory over Banks to finish with a perfect record.

Jason Haynes and Jason Parris paved the way for a total of 236 for six off 50 overs by putting on 113 for the first wicket. Left-hander Haynes made 55 and Parris 50.

Roland Holder (44) and Shawn Graham (32) made their presence felt.

Pickwick scored 182 all out in 44 overs with Mike Matthews hitting 46, Ryan Hinds 39 and Anthony Hurley 29.

Randy Thomas, just back from the Shell Academy in Grenada, held the BCL innings together along with wicket-keeper Bryan Neblett after they stumbled to 26 for four. They added 79 for the fifth wicket.Thomas made 61 and Neblett 50.

BCL ended on 182 for nine as the last wicket pair scrambled two runs off the last ball.

AT BECKLES ROAD: AN unbroken partnership of 72 between captain Courtney Browne and Antonio Thomas carried Cable & Wireless to a three-wicket win over YMPC.

Browne made 54 not out and Thomas was on 18 as the Wildey team took just 26.5 overs to achieve their target of 178.

YMPC were 83 for seven at one stage as the batsmen struggled against spinners Anthony Morris (three for 17) and Ryan Layne (three for 34).

Joel Leacock, with 39 not out and Wendell Coppin (31) helped the innings to rally but a total of 177 for nine from 50 overs was ultimately inadequate.

ZONE ‘B’

AT TRENTS: MAPLE seemed overawed by the presence of West Indies captain Brian Lara, who was playing his first ever-local club match, in addition to a big crowd and were manhandled by Police.

Edison Rock, who showed tremendous promise as an under-15 player for Alleyne School in the early 1990s, hit 93 and fellow left-hander Sadiq Hill 45 in a Police total of 249 for nine off 50 overs.

Dwayne Yearwood, like Rock a former BDFSP player as recently as last season, scored 30 and Sylvester Louis, 25 not out.

Left-arm pacer Anderson Holder took four for 37.

The crowd waited in anticipation for magic from Lara, who batted at No. 5 but as soon as he was leg before wicket off a low full toss from left-arm spinner Hill for eight, many of them left the ground.

Maple were eventually bowled out for 148 in 41.2 overs to lose by 101 runs. Andy Payne topscored with 47 as Hill grabbed five 25 from ten overs.

Ahmed Proverbs (49 off 42 balls with six fours and a six) and Patrick Browne (46) helped St. Catherine with an early foundation by putting on 69 for the second wicket. Kenroy Williams (42) also supported but spin ‘twins’ Dave Marshall and Sulieman Benn impacted by sharing seven wickets.

Marshall finished with four for 36 and Benn three for 31 as St. Catherine were bowled out for 213 in 48.2 overs.
