SERIES 4 – JULY 20 ZONE ‘A’ AT THE BREWERY: PICKWICK won for the first time - by 56 runs - after another disappointing performance by Banks. Ryan Hinds showed his class in hitting 87 off 86 balls with ten fours as Pickwick made 192 all out in 41.1 overs. Kirk Edwards weighed in with 40. The pair added 85 for the fourth wicket. Both were victims of off-spinner Marlon Hoyte, who took three for 39. Only Orion Bostic, with 69 at No.4, stood out against a varied attack including Hinds, a left-arm spinner, who took two for 19 as Banks fell for 136 in 40.1 overs. AT BLACK ROCK: FORTUNES fluctuated before Carlton beat Cable & Wireless by two wickets. After losing their first two wickets cheaply on winning the toss, Cable & Wireless were revived by a third wicket partnership of 121 between Junior Holder, who made 80 and Ryan Layne (40). They eventually were bowled out for 201 off 44.5 overs. Kurt Wilkinson, enjoying a good all-round season, took four for 27 off 7.5 overs. Wilkinson also topscored with 39 as the home side reached a revised target of 192 from 48 overs with 5.4 overs left. Captain Marlon Graham (29) and Shirley Clarke (28) kept the middle together along with Wilkinson before pacer Corey Collymore snapped up two wickets to tilt the balance as Carlton slipped to 179 for eight. It was then left to Ryan Austin and Reunel Agard to guide them home. Collymore finished with four for 27 off nine overs. AT BANK HALL: EMPIRE’S all-round strength was again in evidence en route to a 75-run win over BCL. Having lost the toss, Empire scored 219 for eight off 50 overs. Terry Pilgrim, batting at No.8, led the way with 37 while openers Jason Haynes (36) and Jason Parris (31) batted solidly. Veteran leg-spinner Sherlon Greaves undermined the BCL batting with five for 37 from nine overs as they were dismissed for 144 in 40 overs. Dwayne Lynch at least had a satisfying match, scoring 34 to follow-up figures of three for 24. ZONE ‘B’ AT PARAGON: STILL on a high after beating Spartan, Maple rolled over struggling BDFSP by 78 runs. Donovan Lopez’s team made 226 for eight off 46 overs after being 151 for seven. Opener Pedro Agard scored 36, Lopez 35 not out and Khalid Springer 31. Springer, a hard-working pacer, sustained the pressure in taking four for 37 and seamer Andre Evelyn supported with three for 24 as BDFSP were fired out for 148 in 37.2 overs. Tino Best, better known for his fast bowling, made 34. AT LESTER VAUGHAN: SPARTAN manhandled Combined Schools, minus injured captain Martin Nurse, to remind all and sundry that they are the champions despite defeat against Maple in the previous round. The Parkites powered to 272 for seven from 50 overs after they were put in. Livy Puckerin, now with the title of manager/player, lashed 87 off 80 balls with ten fours and two sixes. Puckerin and Hattian Graham, who made 61 not out including three towering sixes, put on 92 for the fifth wicket. There were also useful contributions from Corey Yearwood (36), Rohan Nurse (35) and Kevin Stoute (24). After a fairly solid start of 54 by Renaldo Parris (29) and Nicholas Squires (21), the Schools slumped to 115 all out in 44 overs. Andrew Layne, an unknown left-arm spinner, grabbed five for 21 from nine overs as the last five wickets fell for one run. AT BAYFIELD: SET up by a century opening partnership between Rico Weekes and Ahmed Proverbs, St. Catherine went on to defeat Wanderers by 76 runs. Proverbs, one of the most exciting batsmen in the island, slammed 67 and Weekes contributed 46 as they put on 135. Shawn Sargeant’s 34 was the only other score of note in a total of 220 all out in 47.4 overs. Off-spinner Andrew Emtage took four for 42 and national left-arm pacer Ian Bradshaw, three for 33. Wanderers could only manage 144 in 41.5 overs. Bradshaw made 30 and captain Dwayne Nurse 25. Left-arm spinner and captain Derick Bishop took four for 37, and pacers Dayne Maynard and Ulric Batson each picked up three for 34. |
