Barbados Youth ‘A’ step up with win over Pickwick in badly rain-hit Series 6 of BCA T20 Cup

Bridgetown, Barbados, September 22 - ( - As rain badly hit Series 6 in the BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup Championship on Saturday, Barbados Youth ‘A’ stepped up their quest for a place in the quarter-finals with a commanding eight-wicket win over ESA Field Pickwick at Kensington Oval.

So severe was the rain that five matches were completely washed out including four in Zone ‘B’.

In fact, Kensington Oval was the only venue where a full match was possible.

Zone ‘A’ leaders BWU Gladiola sustained their very impressive showing, beating IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire by seven wickets at Rices, BDFSP defeated Empire by four runs at Bank Hall and newcomers IDL Walkers Sand Quarry Isolation Cavaliers beat Lords by 30 runs at KMV Oval.

Gladiola are the only team to win all of their matches.


At Rices:

Play started two-and-a-half-hours late at 4 p.m., reducing the match to a 10-over-a-side.

Sent in, Yorkshire managed 76 for four.

Athelbert Brathwaite made 27 off 22 balls at No. 3 after Shakeel Richards and Lamar Worrell added 33 off 4.3 overs for the first wicket.

Richards scored 24 off 23 balls and Worrell, 10.

Medium-pacer Korie Miller took three for 15.

Gladiola raced to victory with two overs to spare as Ashley Nurse slammed an unbeaten 34 off 19 balls including six fours and one three at No. 4. He and Shem Watson (seven not out) featured in an unbroken stand of 41 in four overs.

Left-hander Martin Nurse scored 23 off 14 balls and opener Kadeem Alleyne, 11 off five balls.

At Bank Hall:

It was a painful defeat for last year’s runners-up Empire who are now in danger of not reaching the knockout stage.

With the match reduced to a five-over, BDFSP scored 35 for five after losing the toss.

Medium-pacer Kevin Stoute took two for eight.

Needing 10 runs off the last over from medium-pacer Antonio Greenidge, Empire were restricted to five and ended on 31 for three.

Opener Jai-Bari Yarde made 18 off 16 balls.

At Kensington Oval:

Chasing 116 to win in 20 overs, Barbados Youth ‘A’ were spurred to an eight-wicket victory by opener Hakeem Perryman, who hit an unbeaten 65 off 48 balls with five fours and four sixes.

It was Perryman’s second half-century of the Tournament.

Left-hander Perryman and Shaqkere Parris added 62 in 8.3 overs for the first wicket before Parris was leg before wicket by off-spinner Shane Jones for 25 off 26 balls.

Perryman and skipper Rivaldo Clarke, who made 12 off 14 balls, then put on 30 in 3.3 overs.

Kevin Wickham was not out on 13 off 12 deliveries.

After winning the toss, Pickwick made 115 for six.

Yvan Grant topscored with 52 not out off 36 balls including four sixes at No. 5.

Opener Corey Yearwood scored 23 off 34 balls, Rohan Ryan 17 off 27 deliveries and Jones, 10 from 15 balls.

Off-spinner Tariq O’Neale took two for 14 and Clarke, two for 25.

At Desmond Haynes Oval:

No result. No play because of wet conditions.

At Crumpton Street A:

Wildey won by default from Barbados Youth ‘B’ as the pitch was not prepared.


At KMV Oval:

Isolation Cavaliers batted enterprisingly to score 101 for eight off 12 overs after they were sent in.

Sadrian Ward led the way with 44 off 32 balls including two fours and two sixes at the top. Captain Jamaine Bullen contributed 19.

Jamali Lynch took two for 22.

Lords were limited to 71 for five.

Opener Brandon Thompson scored 34 with two fours and two sixes.

Wayne Lee took two for 11.

At Beckles Road:

No result. No play because of wet conditions.

At Bayfield:

No result. No play because of wet conditions.
