Bridgetown, Barbados, August 17 - (www.bcacricket.org) - History was created at the Annual General Meeting of the Pioneer Cavaliers Cricket Club held at the Scouts Headquarters, Hazelwood, St Michael on Wednesday, August 12.
Founder member and long-standing President of 42 years, Glenfield Griffith, did not seek re-election, and Anderson Harrison was elected unopposed as only the second President of the club in its illustrious history.
Another founder member and Treasurer for over 38 years, Chester Yarde, also did not seek re-election, and Norma Burrowes was elected unopposed as the club’s first female Treasurer.
With the club’s largest turnout in years at an annual general meeting, glowing tributes were paid by all the members present to the two founding members, for their devotion, contributions and development to the club’s existence over the 42 years.
They have been instrumental in the success of the club’s tours throughout the Caribbean, United Kingdom and North America every two years, fostering new membership and lasting relationships with Barbadian groups and other organizations in these countries. The Club’s membership extends to Trinidad, Guyana, Canada, Boston and the United Kingdom.
The new executive committee is comprised of three females, a first in the history of the club.
The Executive Committee for the year 2020 is as follows: President: Anderson Harrison; Vice-President: Adrian Smith; Secretary: Andria Codrington; Treasurer: Norma Burrowes; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer: Antonia Harrison; Public Relations Officer: Winston Haynes; Floor Members: Glenfield Griffith, David Payne.
