Teams all set for start of BCA Elite/Division 1 T20 Cup despite absence of 18 top players

Bridgetown, Barbados, August 14 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Despite the absence of 18 noted players for the early rounds of the BCA Elite/Division 1 Twenty20 Cup Championship due to their participation in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), there are still six with international experience who will be on show for the opening series on Saturday, August 15.

Those missing for at least the first four rounds of the Tournament, which will be played on consecutive Saturdays, culminating with the Final at Kensington Oval on November 14 are Jason Holder, Shamarh Brooks, Shai Hope, Ashley Nurse, Jonathan Carter, Raymon Reifer, Kyle Mayers, Joshua Bishop, Nyeem Young, Justin Greaves, Keon Harding (Barbados Tridents); Carlos Brathwaite, Fidel Edwards, Nicholas Kirton (Jamaica Tallawahs); Roston Chase, Chemar Holder, Leniko Boucher (St. Lucia Souks); and Dominic Drakes (St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots).

The CPL is being staged in Trinidad and runs from August 18 to September 10.

Hardest hit with the absence of five players are record five-time champions Sagicor Life UWI, who are fielding two sides, like Barbados Youth, in the 20-team Tournament.

The players who represent UWI are Carter, Boucher, Kirton, Bishop and Chemar Holder. When available, all five are to turn out for UWI ‘A’.

Title holders Carlton will miss four players in Mayers, Drakes, Harding and Young.

The other CPL players with local clubs are: Brooks (Spartan), Shai Hope (ESA Field Pickwick), Jason Holder, Reifer (Wanderers), Nurse (Gladiola), Carlos Brathwaite (Wildey), Edwards (YMPC) and Chase, Greaves (Empire).

The six players who have represented West Indies at the highest level and who will feaure in the first round are Kyle Hope (Pickwick), Jomel Warrican (Empire), Dwayne Smith, Shane Dowrich (YMPC), Kraigg Brathwaite (Wanderers) and Corey Collymore (Maple).
