Bridgetown, Barbados, November 16 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Bayview Hospital YMPC are the kings of the 2019 Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) First Division three-day Championship, while school team Nicholls Baking Combermere have been demoted.
Boasting the likes of former Barbados and West Indies players, all-rounder Dwayne Smith and fast bowler Fidel Edwards, YMPC clinched the title after capturing nine points (2 batting, 4 bowling and 3 for first innings lead) against the only other title contenders, IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire at Friendship on the opening day of the ninth and final series of matches.
Yorkshire were bowled out for a paltry 89 in 24.3 overs as tall left-arm spinner Nkosi Ross grabbed five for seven and Edwards, four for 27.
Propelled by an unbeaten 103 from Raymond Kellman, YMPC raced to 211 for four off 24 overs at stumps. Smith slammed 40 off 12 balls.
YMPC who started the final round on 133 points - 15 points ahead of Yorkshire - have moved to an unassailable 142 points including seven wins.
2020 will be the first time since 2011 that YMPC, based at Beckles Road, St. Michael, will be competing in the top division, which was rebranded as Elite from 2012.
Combermere, who gained promotion to the First division in 2015, were battling relegation with another school side Foundation, who first played at this level in 2014.
Foundation went into this round in eighth position on 50 points - 20 more than rock-bottom Combermere with Barbados Youth, who are exempt from demotion, second last on 32 points.
But Foundation condemned Combermere to the Intermediate division next season after gaining three bowling points against Maple who scored 294 for eight off 52 overs at Church Hill.
Combermere have picked up four bowling points after dismissing Sagicor Life UWI for 163 in 50.1 overs before closing on 78 for one off 16 overs at 3Ws Oval.
