Boucher hits 71, Stoute (5-48) as Chase’s X1 beat Carter’s X1 by 3 wickets in Barbados practice match

Bridgetown, Barbados, October 23 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Rookie opener Leniko Boucher was the only player just selected in the Barbados Pride 14-man squad for the imminent Cricket West Indies (CWI) Super50 Cup to stand out with the bat in a one-day practice match at Bayfield today.

Boucher, 22, scored 71 off 107 balls including three fours and two sixes in a disappointing total of 164 all out in 42.4 overs by Jonathan Carter’s X1, who lost by three wickets to Roston Chase’s X1.

The diminutive Boucher was ninth out with the score 162 in the 41st over after Carter’s team won the toss.

In the November 6 to December 1 Championship which will be played in St. Kitts & Nevis and Trinidad & Tobago with the latter also hosting the semi-finals and Final, Boucher will be hoping to improve significantly on his showing last season when he made his debut, managing just 102 runs at an average of 17 in six matches.

After West Indies Test pacer Kemar Roach had grabbed the first two wickets in successive balls by removing Trinidadian Kjorn Ottley (ten) and Tevyn Walcott, experienced medium-pacer Kevin Stoute, who has been left out of the Barbados Pride team, grabbed five for 48 off ten overs.

Wicket-keeper/batsman Walcott, currently the leading run-getter in the BCA Elite division three-day Championship with an aggregate of 464 for BDFSP, was given an opportunity to bat twice.

He returned at No. 10 and scored 28 not out.

Uncapped Wildey batsman Zachary McCaskie, who is in the Barbados Pride squad, was unable to play as the influenza bug kept him in bed at home.

Roach later also picked up the scalp of Joshua Bishop for 19 to finish with three for 26 off eight overs, while off-spinner Chase, who is in both the West One-Day International and Test teams for the series against Afghanistan in India next month, took two for 14 off 4.4 overs.

As Chase’s X1 cruised to victory in 37.5 overs, talented opener 20-year-old opener Shian Brathwaite scored 49 off 84 balls with five boundaries before he was sixth out in the 36th over with the score 151.

Fast bowler Miguel Cummins, who recently signed a three-year Kolpak deal with Middlesex in the English County Championship and will therefore be no longer eligible to represent West Indies again, took two for 28 off 7.5 overs, and left-arm spinner Bishop, two for 35 off ten overs.

Another practice match which was originally scheduled for Foursquare Oval on October 29 has been cancelled. Instead, two more practice matches are now planned for October 28 (day) and 31 (day/night) at the 3Ws Oval against Combined Campuses & Colleges, who captured the CWI one-day title for the first time last year.
