Thomas slams 62 as Alleyne maul Princess Margaret in Foundation Joel Garner T20

Bridgetown, Barbados, February 4 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Randy Thomas exhibited his vast experience and class in hitting a brisk half-century as Alleyne Alumni brushed aside Princess Margaret Old Scholars by 102 runs to record their first win of the 2014 Christ Church Foundation School Joel Garner Twenty20 tapeball championship.

Clearly anxious to atone for a 46-run defeat against Combermere Old Scholars in the first round of the sixth annual tournament, Alleyne Alumni, the 2011 and 2013 losing finalists, scored 159 for six after winning the toss in the Lee Harford Skeete/Lewiston Wellington Zone 'A' match at Briar Hall on Monday night.

Opener Thomas, a former Barbados player who captained LIME to the title in last season's BCA Sagicor General Super Cup (50-over) championship, slammed three sixes and three fours in his 48-ball innings.

With Kemar Jabarry Smith, the brother of Barbados all-rounder Dwayne Smith, Thomas added 113 in only 9.2 overs for the third wicket.

Smith scored 28 off 25 balls before he was dismissed by new ball bowler Jamar Nicholls, while Thomas, who duly won the $100 Baron's Smokehouse Player-of-the-Match award, was run out three balls later in the same over - the 16th.

Nicholls took two for 18 off four overs.

After losing their top two batsmen - Dave Clarke, leg before wicket by seamer Andre Evelyn for nought in the third ball of the innings and Sean Armstrong, run out for two in the second over - Princess Margaret struggled badly.

Evelyn, new ball partner Jamoe Carrington and left-armer Adrian Maynard sustained the pressure to such an extent that Princess Margaret were bowled out for 57 in 12 overs - the lowest total so far this season in what was the ninth match.

Dwayne Skeete (18) and Justin Batson (11) were the double-figure contributors.

Maynard took four for 12 off two overs; Evelyn, three for 16 and Carrington, two for 19 - both of two overs.

It was the second defeat for Princess Margaret, virtually ruining their chances of reaching the quarter-finals.

The tournament moves to Dover on Wednesday, February 5 with Alexandra Old Scholars opposing Combermere Old Scholars in a top-of-the-table clash, starting at 7 p.m.
