PITCH-TESTING INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT AT KENSINGTON OVAL, WEDNESDAY 11th TO THURSDAY 26TH  OCTOBER 2006.

 

Barbados will host six (6) of the Super 8 matches as well as the Final of the 2007 Cricket World Cup from April 11th, 2007 to April 28th, 2007at Kensington Oval.

 

The ICC has mandated that all newly laid cricket pitches which will be used for official matches in the 2007 World Cup must be tested well in advance of the matches mentioned above.

 

Towards achieving this objective, the Barbados Cricket Association in conjunction with the Barbados Local Organising Committee for the World Cup will be hosting an invitational tournament of eight (8) matches at Kensington Oval commencing on October 11th and ending with a final on Thursday October 26th 2006. 

 

The schedule of matches in the invitational tournament at Kensington Oval is as follows:-

Fri.       Oct. 20th          Winner # 2                  vs        Winner # 4

Tues.   Oct. 24th          SEMI-FINAL                             (2  LOSING TEAMS)

Thurs.  Oct. 28th          FINAL                                      (2 WINNING TEAMS)

                       

There will be a winner’s prize of three thousand dollars ($3,000.00). In addition each club participating in the tournament will receive a commemorative plaque and each player a commemorative medal.

 

Matches will be played under the Rules of the Sagicor Super Cup competition, and will begin at 9.30 a.m.

 

Since Kensington Oval is still basically a construction site, there will therefore be several restrictions which must be carefully observed.  Admission to the Oval is free.  However, spectator support, which is so often crucial to teams, will be affected.
