ST. CATHERINE pair Patrick
Browne and captain Kenroy Williams both struck
centuries off hapless Pickwick while Dwayne Smith of
YMPC missed out by eight runs against UWI to help
set up victories for their teams.
And another left-arm spinner,
Dave Roach of Maple, took five wickets against BCL
to follow Glyne Strickland of St. Catherine and
Police’s Sadiq Hill from the previous round.
Browne, the Barbados and West
Indies ‘A’ team wicket-keeper/batsman and the
talented Williams featured in a third wicket
partnership of 209 as St. Catherine totalled 274 for
six off 50 overs and went on to win easily by 96
runs at Queen’s Park.
Co-incidentally, both Browne
and Williams faced 138 balls. Browne struck ten
fours and a six while Williams also hit ten fours,
along with two sixes.
Pickwick were bowled out for
178, the topscore of 35 coming from captain Rondelle
Yearwood. Strickland was again among the wickets,
picking up three for 23.
Smith scored 92 and veteran
Wendell Coppin contributed 52 in YMPC’s 252 for nine
at Beckles Road. Shirley Clarke, who opened the
bowling, took four for 44.
UWI kept in the hunt and passed
150 with only three wickets down but the last seven
fell for 47 runs and they lost by 30 runs as YMPC
remained at the top of Zone ‘B’. Pacer Tennyson
Roach, who formerly played for BDFSP and who is not
to be confused with his namesake who represented the
Barbados Youth team and Pickwick, took four for 53
to follow an unbeaten 31.
Another Roach, the veteran
Dave, cut into the BCL batting at Trents as Maple
triumphed convincingly by 125 runs.
Jamar Griffith topscored with
51 in Maple’s 262 all out in 49.5 overs, while Roach
grabbed five for 21 off 6.5 overs.
There were two very close
finishes.
Spartan, helped by a whopping
57 extras including 41 wides, squeezed a one-wicket
win over Wanderers at Dayrells Road to take over as
Zone ‘A’ leaders as they chased 200. The last wicket
pair of veteran Dave Marshall and teenager Cheynne
Jones, a member of the 2005 Shield champions
Combermere, added 36.
BDFSP beat Cable & Wireless by
six runs at Wildey after another last wicket pair,
Anthony Morris and Fabian Cox kept the home team’s
hopes alive with a stand of 32 as they chased what
appeared to be a modest target of 158.
An unbroken partnership of 109
between Kurt Wilkinson (59 not out) and Randy Graham
(37 not out) carried Carlton to a six-wicket win
over Barbados Youth ‘A’ for whom opener Roger
Williams hit 51 in a total of 190 for eight at
Waterford.
The other Youth team, however,
defeated Police by four wickets at Cane Garden.
Rain prevented a ball from
being bowled between Empire and Banks at The
Brewery. |
