PRESS RELEASE NO. 32/03

The West Indies Cricket Board has today expressed to the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) its concern about the story appearing in today's Weekend Nation dealing with the resale by scalpers of tickets for the One Day Internationals on Saturday and Sunday.

The BCA would like to remind members of the public that the Public Order Act was amended in 2000 to provide as follows:

"(1)        A person shall not, without the authority of the organisers of a designated sporting event, sell, offer to sell, or expose for sale, a ticket for that event,

(a) in the course of trade or business; or

(b) in any public or other place

(2)          A person who contravenes subsection (1) is guilty of an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term of six months."

The BCA has asked the Police to be extremely vigilant where the practice of reselling tickets is concerned and reminds members of the public that the BCA ticket office is the only authorised outlet for the purchase of tickets
