PRESS RELEASE NO. 29/03

May 21, 2003

The BCA Season 2003 begins on May 24

The BCA domestic season will start this week-end May 24 in all Divisions and  the BF&C Cup will begin on June 1st .  Fixtures for the first series can be found in the local newspapers and on the BCA’s website at bcacricket.com  The two-day 90 over format in Division 1 will continue this year.  The Board, in view of its vision to engineer more competitiveness, and to establish a system and playing conditions aimed at developing and preparing our best cricketers for international competition agreed that the two day format and conditions of play should continue as instituted two years ago.

In support of this format the Board will seek to assist clubs in overcoming the challenges which this format has presented.

Continuing this year pitches for the Reserve Zone matches will be covered.  In these matches “wides” will now be interpreted in the context of the limited over game.

For the first time this season, Player Transfer forms must be completed for players who wish to transfer from one club to another, and there will be rewards for best Umpire and best Groundsman in  the 1st Division.

In addition BCA will begin a programme to standardise the balls used in its various competitions.  It will begin with the BF&C Shield competition.

It is hoped that the standardisation will also reduce cost to the Clubs.
