February 26, 2003 BCA PRESIDENT JOINS MISSION TO SOUTH AFRICA President of the Barbados Cricket Association, Mr. Stephen Alleyne joins a Caribbean delegation, brought together by the WICB, to observe the 2003 World Cup in South Africa. The
trip, which begins today, February 25, will continue through March 11, and
is being undertaken to observe first hand the operations of the 2003 ICC
Cricket World Cup. It is a collaborative effort between the Barbados
Cricket Association and a number of private sector companies which are
affiliates of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce. They include Abed, Commenting
on the Mission, Mr. Alleyne said that the trip would allow the Caribbean
Governments and Cricketing Officials to experience first hand, the
arrangements for World Cup 2003 to make them aware of the requirements in
terms of facilities, infrastructure, arrangements and standards, should a
country’s bid be successful for the 2007 World Cup. During
the visit, the delegation will tour venues, observe match day operations
and participate in meetings and seminars with the South Africa Cricket
World Cup Organizing Committee (SACWC); International Cricket Council (ICC);
Global Cricket Corporation (GCC), a subsidiary of News Corporation, the
main commercial rights holders of the event; World Sport Nimbus (WSN),
commercial rights sales agents for the event and Octagon CSI,
International sports marketing and television production company. Over the two-week visit, Windies World Cup delegates will also benefit from access to specialists in world cup games organization. |
