Bridgetown, Barbados, May 12 – (www.bcacricket.org) – July 4 is the start of the 2010 Barbados Cricket Association Sagicor General Super Cup, the oldest limited overs competition in the island. TeleBarbados Carlton will open their defence of the title against fellow west coast team CGI Maple on home turf at Desmond Haynes Oval (formerly called Black Rock) in Zone ‘A’. Newcomers Old Brigand Dover are in Zone ‘B’. Their first match is against BNB St. Catherine at Inch Marlow, which is Dover’s home ground for all Division 1, Sagicor General Super Cup and Twenty20 matches.
The Dover and Inch Marlow clubs are both in the southern parish of Christ Church.
Commonly called the Barbados Fire Cup for the first time in 1975 and played as a 40-over-a-side competition after Barbados Fire & Commercial, later known as Barbados Fire & General (now Sagicor General) took over the sponsorship from Derrick Robins, who had sponsored it for the previous three seasons, the Super Cup was launched in 2004.
Since 2004, it has been contested as a 50-over-a-side championship, bringing it in line with the international stipulation.
From the 2006 season, the Duckworth/Lewis Method, which pertains to matches interrupted by rain, was introduced from the quarter-finals.

Zone A - Police v Guardian General Barbados Youth at Weymouth; TeleBarbados Carlton v CGI Maple at Desmond Haynes Oval; Banks v LIME at The Brewery; Inspire Sports Wanderers (Bye).
Zone B – Caribbean Lumber YMPC v ICBL Empire at Beckles Road; Sagicor UWI v Super Centre Spartan at 3Ws Oval; Old Brigand Dover v BNB St. Catherine at Inch Marlow; ESA Field Pickwick (Bye).
