Holders Combermere, Lodge ready for
battle
By Elvis Howard
DEFENDING champions Combermere will oppose Lodge in the long
overdue final of the 2006 Barbados Cricket Association
Schools’ Under-19 knockout tournament at the Police ground,
Weymouth ‘A’, on November 9.
The semi-finals and final have been blighted by a few
postponements because of rain, the latest being a month ago
on October 11 when the final was rescheduled.
Lodge booked their passage after they won a rain-affected
game against Alexandra in St. Peter by a better run rate on
October 8. This was the third attempt after rain had badly
affected the other two occasions with no play at all in the
first.
Barbados under-15 player Kyle Corbin made 80 while under-19
players Dawayne Sealy 76 and Kyle Hope 42 boosted a healthy
Lodge total of 299 for eight off 37 overs on the very small
ground at Queen’s Street.
West Indies Under-19 fast bowler Kemar Roach collected three
for 60. Barbados under-19 batsman Jonathan Carter rushed to
an unbeaten 40 in Alexandra’s 70 for five off 15.2 overs
when the rain had the final say.
In the other match, Combermere made light work of last
year’s losing finalists Coleridge & Parry by 149 runs at
Waterford on September 28.
The
Combermerians amassed a formidable 251 for eight off the
full quota of 40 overs and then routed Coleridge and Parry
for a paltry 102 with as many as 11.2 overs left.
Combermere’s innings was built around a knock of 59 by Shane
Murray in addition to Barbados Under-19 players Carlos
Brathwaite with 49 and Reydon Toppin 43.
Barbados Under- 15 all-rounder Dario Cummins took three for
67 and later returned to score a fighting 22.
