Region & WICB News - Bridgetown, Barbados, September 13 - (www.bcacricket.org) - The Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) in collaboration with Cricket West Indies (CWI), hosted a Level 2 Coaching Course from September 5 to 8 at the Sagicor Cave Hill School of Business, University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus.
Among the participants were Kurt Wilkinson, a former Barbados first-class batsman, who toured South Africa with the West Indies team in 2003-04 but never played an international and Barbados Women’s opener Danielle Small, a former West Indies Women One-Day and Twenty20 International player, who also serves as coach to the Barbados Blind Cricket Team.
Three coaches from Trinidad & Tobago were also in attendance.
Course coordinator Robin Parris, Territorial Development Officer (BCA/CWI) said he was pleased with the approach of participants, noting the focus given by coaches on player-coach interaction.
Parris acknowledged the attention lent to player specific development as especially impressive. He stated that in addition to the usual group specific instruction coaches give, establishing a rapport with players is crucial for player development within the team setting.
Former England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Senior Coach Development Manager Keith Tomlins also lent his expertise to the course, further adding to an invaluable experience for attendees.
Small summarized the experience as a definite bonus, adding that the information she gained over the four days will not only further her knowledge and understanding of the sport but directly aid in the development of her personal game.
Next on the course calendar for the BCA will be a Level 1 Coaching Course, which is scheduled to be held from October 28 to 31.
