Region & WICB News - Bridgetown, Barbados, August 28 - (www.bcacricket.org) – Three Barbadians are in a 14-member West Indies ‘B’ squad named today for the Cricket Canada Summerfest from August 29 to September 7.
The three are all-rounder Justin Greaves, his ICBL Empire team-mate, left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican and all-rounder Kyle Mayers, who plays for Carlton.
Also in the squad is talented Windward Islands Under-19 team batsman Kimani Melius, who slammed a boundary-studded century (102 off only 58 balls with 13 fours and six sixes) in a 79-run win over beleaguered Canada at Park Hill in the sixth and penultimate round of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Under-19 one-day Championship in St. Vincent on Monday.
Captained by Guyanese wicket-keeper/batsman Anthony Bramble, the team will play four Twenty20 (including a warm-up) and two 50-over matches.
A West Indies ‘B’ team was in Canada recently for inaugural Global T20 in which they finished as runners-up. Bramble was also the captain.
“The upcoming Windies ‘B’ tour to Canada will provide another opportunity for our young players to gain experience in the shorter formats,” said CWI Director of Cricket, Jimmy Adams.
“The itinerary comprises both Twenty20 and 50 overs-a-side formats and has allowed CWI to have a look at players who are not involved with the ongoing CPL. This tournament has the potential to assist our player development processes by exposing more of our younger players to more competitive environments.”
Squad: Anthony Bramble (Captain), Sunil Ambris, Alick Athanaze, Sheeno Berridge, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Justin Greaves, Derval Green, Jahmar Hamilton, Sherman Lewis, Kyle Mayers, Kimani Melius, Jeavor Royal, Jomel Warrican.
