Dame Patricia Symmonds passes on

Dame Patricia Symmonds passes on

Dame Patricia Symmonds will be remembered as an icon of post independent Barbados.

Appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty the Queen in 2000, hers was a life of powerful service.

The impact of this life is unquantifiable, yet the measure of her influence will forever be evident in the very lives of those she has touched. Synonymous with the development of the St. Michael School, Dame Patricia touched thousands over the years.

The excellence with which she served the education, political and civic spheres also extended to cricket, as Dame Patricia was a long-standing Honorary Life Vice President of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) and the first lady to serve in that capacity.

A vibrant participant at the annual general meetings of the Association over the years, she made a sterling contribution to the BCA and consistently made herself available to serve. Indeed her careful editing of the BCA’s Annual Report for many years ensured that all entries were grammatically correct.

Her genuinely gracious character was evident in every interaction and the Barbados Cricket Association will forever celebrate Dame Patricia Symmonds, as one of its most cherished.

The Board of Directors, Management, Staff and Membership of the Barbados Cricket Association extend sincere condolences to her family.
