Young named as emerging player for Barbados Tridents
Bridgetown, Barbados, May 7 - (www.bcacricket.org) - West Indies Under-19 team fast bowling all-rounder Nyeem Young has been named as the emerging player for champions Barbados Tridents for the 2020 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL), which remains in doubt because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Young, a product of The St. Michael School, currently represents Carlton in the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) domestic Competitions after previously turning out for Barbados Youth.
The Tridents have retained captain Jason Holder, who is also the West Indies Test skipper, fellow Barbadians Shai Hope, Jonathan Carter, Ashley Nurse, Raymon Reifer and Justin Greaves, along with Windward Islander Johnson Charles of St. Lucia, Leeward Islands’ Hayden Walsh Jr, an Antiguan.
“We are really excited to build on last year's championship win and it is great that we have been able to retain the core of our squad for this season. Combined with the international players that we are planning to add to the squad we are looking forward to defending our championship,” Holder said.
The CPL is scheduled to take place between August 19 and September 26, but the tournament organisers are watching the current situation with COVID-19 closely and are liaising with medical advisors and governments.
A decision on whether the tournament can proceed as planned, or at a different time, will be made as soon as possible, the organisers said in a media release.
