Well-known BCA players star in Charles Griffith St. John T20 tapeball Classic

Bridgetown, Barbados, October 9 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Well-known Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) players are making an impact on the second annual Charles Griffith St. John Development Council Invitational Twenty20 tapeball Classic at Gall Hill.

After the first four matches, the likes of veteran Crane Resort St. Catherine all-rounder Uric Batson, prolific Bayview Hospital YMPC batsman Jadan Jones and exciting Empire opening batsman Shian Brathwaite have produced outstanding performances - all in winning causes.

Jones slammed 62 off only 23 balls with eight sixes and one four at No. 3 to help spur Mark’s Auto Spares Belair Stars to a four-wicket win over Fireball in the opening match on Sunday, October 6.

It has been a wonderful local domestic season so far for Jones, who has reeled off three centuries for YMPC in the BCA Division 1 Championship, lifting the Beckles Road team to the top of the Points Table going into the current sixth series as they desperately seek to regain promotion to the Elite division after being demoted since the end of the 2011 season - then only the third year of the promotion/relegation system.

Batson put behind him the current relegation worries for rock-bottom St. Catherine in the Elite division as he turned in a fine, all-round performance to propel K&R’s Variety Green Team to a resounding 117-run win against Arthur Holder’s X1 in the second match on Sunday.

After scoring 27 not out off 18 balls including two sixes in a total of 190 for five off 20 overs, Batson returned to grab five for 15 off 3.2 overs as Arthur Holder’s X1 were bundled out for 73 in 10.2 overs.

Brathwaite, who recently had the honour of creating a BCA modern-era record by carrying his bat through an innings for the second time in consecutive seasons in the Elite division Championship, hit an unbeaten 59 off 51 balls with five fours and one six as Caribbean Mix beat Blazers by seven wickets in Match 3 on Monday.

A former Barbados Under-19 team player, Brathwaite first achieved his special feat of batting through an innings for Barbados Youth against Sagicor Life UWI at the Harrison College ground, Crumpton Street last year (Series 2) and repeated for Empire off fellow current joint Championship leaders Wildey at SJPI in the fifth round.
