Mayers slams unbeaten century for Carlton in Sagicor T20 Championship
Bridgetown, Barbados, April 20 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Kyle Mayers struck an unbeaten century for Carlton against Barbados Youth, who lost by 57 runs in Series 5 of the BCA Sagicor General Twenty20 Championship today.
Again batting at the top, Mayers, who has been in fine form, scored 111 not out off 63 balls including nine fours and seven sixes as Carlton made 166 for seven off 20 overs after they lost the toss in the Zone ‘A’ match at Desmond Haynes Oval.
Mayers now has 297 runs at an average of 74.25.
Shemwyn Harris picked up four for 27.
Barbados Youth were restricted to 109 for nine.
Left-arm spinner Matthew Jones, the Carlton captain, took four for 19 and left-arm pacer Dominic Drakes, two for 27.
In the same zone, ICBL Empire defeated Gladiola by 44 runs at Rices, while Crane Resort St. Catherine beat CounterPoint Wanderers in the Super Over at Bayfield.
Empire, Carlton and Gladiola all finished on 16 points to qualify for the quarter-finals on April 27.
In a high-scoring Zone ‘B’ match at Paragon, Sagicor Life UWI beat Spartan by four wickets with five balls remaining.
Spartan made 180 for two off 20 overs after they were sent in.
Akeem Springer slammed 92 not out off 61 balls with five fours and six sixes following an opening partnership of 123 in 14.1 overs with Rashidi Boucher, who hit 52 off 41 balls including four fours and three sixes.
UWI were under pressure on 65 for five after eight overs and then 104 for six after the 12th over before all-rounder Kavem Hodge and Akeem Dewar featured in an unbroken partnership of 81 in 7.1 overs.
Hodge scored an unbeaten 89 off 48 balls containing nine fours and three sixes, while Dewar made 34 not out off 20 balls.
BDFSP beat Nicholls Baking Combermere by 53 runs, also at Paragon, and IGS Insurance Brokers Yorkshire crushed Police by ten wickets at Weymouth.
UWI topped the zone on 18 points with Yorkshire finishing second on 16 points to also move into the quarter-finals.
And in Zone C, Wildey beat Maple by three runs at Beckles Road, YMPC demolished ESA Field Pickwick by eight wickets at the same venue and Foundation defeated Lords by six wickets at Lowlands.
YMPC were the only team to amass a maximum 20 points and will be joined in the last eight by Wildey, who finished with 16 points.
Third-placed Maple on 12 points will anxiously await the outcome of the rescheduled Series 3 Zone ‘B’ match between Police and BDFSP at Weymouth on April 25 to determine the other team to qualify for the quarter-finals.
