Barbados to clash with Grenada in Final of regional Police T20 Tournament
Gros Islet St. Lucia, April 19 (www.bcacricket.org) – Barbados will clash with Grenada in the Final of the regional Police Twenty20 Tournament at the Darren Sammy Stadium on Sunday, April 21.
Another magnificent century from Andre Fletcher led Grenada to an exciting five-wicket victory over St. Vincent & The Grenadines off the very last ball, while Barbados beat St. Lucia by three wickets with four balls to spare in the semi-finals on Thursday.
Set 185 to win, Barbados were under pressure on 45 for four with the likes of hard-hitting Jamar Yearwood, Larry Babb and the in-form Roger Williams back in the pavilion.
But they were pulled around by captain Dario Sargeant and Ravendra Persaud, who added 73 for the fifth wicket before Persaud fell for 57 off 30 balls including five fours and four sixes.
Darien Seale then came to the crease and played positively after the dismissals of Sargeant (24) and Stefan Gooding.
Needing 42 runs off 24 balls, Seale and Rasheed Padmore took their team to victory. Seale scored a cameo 43 not out while Padmore contributed 14 not out.
Chasing 173 to win, Fletcher slammed 124 off 72 balls with 11 fours and seven sixes to set the stage for Grenada.
With the score on 161 for four and needing 12 runs off the last over, Fletcher and Heron Campbell took the score to 169 with two balls remaining.
Fletcher struck the ball to long-on, got the first run and in turning for a non-existent second, was run out.
Captain Randel Baptiste joined Campbell who was clearly in some pain and had to receive medical attention. Baptiste, facing up to Renford Jack, charged down the wicket and struck the ball to long on as the batsmen managed the three runs needed despite Campbell falling twice before limping home.
Grenada Police beat St. Vincent & The Grenadines Police by five wickets.
