WICB Regional 50-Over Tournament

CCC romp to semis after crushing ousted Barbados by 125 runs, CWI Super50, R7, Update 19, POINTS

Bridgetown, Barbados, October 18 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) Marooners romped into the semi-finals of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Super50 Cup after crushing Barbados Pride by 125 runs and eliminating Shamarh Brooks’ team from the knockout stage in the  Round 7 Group B Day/Night match at Kensington Oval today.

Set 260 to win and needing a win to keep their hopes of a place in the semi-finals alive, Barbados Pride were bundled out for 134 in 35.1 overs.

It was the fourth victory in six matches for CCC, skippered by experienced fast bowling all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite, one of five Barbadians in the side.

Now on 20 points - with each victory also earning them a bonus point - CCC joined Group leaders Jamaica Scorpions, on 21 points, in the Final Four, which is completed by Guyana Jaguars and Trinidad & Tobago Red Force from Group A in Trinidad.

The semi-finals are scheduled for October 25 and 26 and the Final on October 28 - all at Kensington Oval.

It was the third defeat for Barbados, leaving them third on 15 points and with only pride to play for in their last match against Jamaica at Kensington on Saturday, starting at 11:30 a.m. (See Points Table and remaining matches below).

Today’s result also gave CCC bragging rights as they have now won four of nine matches against Barbados since they first competed in the regional one-day Championship in 2007. Barbados have triumphed three times with the other two matches being completely washed out.

It was also the first time CCC ever scored over 200 runs in a one-day match against Barbados, who at the same time suffered their heaviest defeat in terms of runs.

Under the rules of the Tournament, in the event of two or more teams finishing on equal number of points in the Group stage, the ordering of teams shall be determined in the following order of priority: (a) the team with the most number of wins, (b) if still equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins, (c) if still equal, the team with the highest number of bonus points, and (d) if still equal, the team with the highest net run rate.
