Combermere capture Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools’ title for record sixth time
Bridgetown, Barbados, July 23 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Combermere beat 360 Cricket Academy of Australia by eight wickets in the Final of the 32nd annual Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools’ limited overs Tournament at Kensington Oval today to lift the title for a record sixth time.
Chasing 148 to win in 40 overs, the Waterford boys triumphed with as many as 20.2 overs to spare.
They were spurred by an opening partnership of 115 in 15 overs between Kastun Stoute and skipper Shian Brathwaite, who was not only outstanding with the bat in the Tournament, but has also been in excellent form in both white and red ball cricket during the local domestic season, mainly for Barbados Youth.
Brathwaite topscored with 60 off 66 balls including seven fours and two sixes, while Stoute slammed 59 off only 39 deliveries containing six fours and four sixes.
Both wickets were taken by Ronikko Ross for 22 runs off three overs.
Appearing in the Tournament for the first time, 360 Cricket Academy scored 145 for eight after winning the toss.
Harrison King topscored with 34 off 47 balls as he counted four boundaries at No. 3.
Mitchell Schiberras contributed 25 and wicket-keeper Coby Cornish 24.
Lodge were last year’s champions, ending a 27-year drought by beating fellow local team Foundation, who were the 2012 champions, by 29 runs in the Final at the same venue on July 24.
