URGENT: Morris slams unbeaten century as Barbados beat Guyana to clinch title, CWI Under-17

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, July 17 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Propelled by a brilliant, unbeaten century from the gifted Antonio Morris, Barbados upstaged pre-series leaders Guyana by six wickets in the fifth and final round at the National Cricket Centre to capture the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Under-17 Championship today.

Chasing 182 to win in 50 overs, Barbados triumphed with as many as 14.1 overs to spare, finishing on 184 for four in 35.5 overs.

Guyana would have felt they were in for a chance when Barbados lost their first three wickets for 49 runs by the 13th over, with all three wickets - captain Rashawn Worrell (13), wicket-keeper Shamar Forde (nought) and Seth Agard (21) - falling to left-arm spinner Nigel Deodat.

Player-of-the-Match Morris and Rivaldo Clarke then added 32 in nine overs for the fourth wicket before Clarke was dismissed for 16.

But Morris, a student of Foundation School for which he scored over 350 runs including a maiden century just over two weeks ago in the BCA Super Cup Championship, sustained his fine form with a truly, outstanding knock of 101 not out.

In partnership with the reliable all-rounder Matthew Forde, the pair pulled their team around by featuring in an unbroken stand of 103 in 14.4 overs.

Morris, who went to the crease at No. 4, faced 81 balls and struck six fours and four sixes, while Forde made 23 not out off 35 balls with one boundary.

Guyana scored 181 for nine off 50 overs after they were sent in.

Skipper Sachin Singh topscored with 32 off 47 balls including five fours. He and Navindra Persaud (19) added 54 in 11 overs for the first wicket - the best partnership of the innings.

Dwain Dick contributed 20 at No. 6.

Nicholas Austin took two for 22, fellow off-spinner Jayden Hoyte, two for 24 and left-arm fast bowler Ramon Simmonds, two for 42 - all off ten overs.
