Further delay in Sagicor General T20 Championship
Bridgetown, Barbados, June 28 - (www.bcacricket.org) - There is a further delay in rescheduling the dates for the semi-finals and Final of the BCA Sagicor General Twenty20 Championship.
After a Complaints & Disputes committee initially ruled that the badly rain-hit third quarter-final match between Crane Resort St. Catherine and Bayview Hospital YMPC at 3Ws Oval on June 4 must be replayed following a protest by YMPC, who lost by ten wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, St. Catherine then appealed.
At a hearing on June 18, the Appeals Tribunal determined that ‘the appeal by St. Catherine must and the same is hereby upheld. The Appeals Tribunal further determined that the on the field of play result stands.’
The semi-finals were then set for July 3 (CounterPoint Wanderers v Massy Stores Spartan) and July 5 (St. Catherine v Sagicor Life UWI) with the Final on July 10 - all at Kensington Oval.
“However, we have received a submission from YMPC indicating their dissatisfaction with the decision of the Appeals Tribunal, which further delays the continuation of the competition and makes null and void the afore mentioned fixtures”.
“Despite the unfortunate setback, the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) will continue the work to ensure a successful completion of the 2018 Sagicor General T20 Competition, and will keep all stakeholders apprised of the progress of the ongoing matter.”
Following a late start and a few reductions in the number of overs, YMPC scored 33 for four off seven overs after they were sent in.
Set a revised target of 37, St. Catherine responded with 41 without loss in five overs.
The Complaints & Disputes committee ruled “the match that was determined to be played was not in accordance with the Rules of the Competition”.
“Rules that had been in place for the previous 29 games in the competition as a result of which any variation would render the game null and void”.
It was, therefore, ruled as a “no decision” and June 10 was set for the replay at the 3Ws Oval.
