Passage, Empire set for BCS Under-13 Final
Bridgetown, Barbados, March 17 - (www.bcacricket.org) – Four-time Champions Fusionz Boutique Passage Juniors and first-timers Empire Juniors will meet in the Final of the Barbados Cricket Supplies (BCS) Under-13 Tournament on Sunday, March 18, at Dayrells Road.
Play starts at 11.30 a.m.
No stranger to finals, having been there seven out of nine times, Passage Juniors, knocked out at the semifinals in 2016 and the quarter-finals in 2017, will be looking to add a fifth championship.
Empire Juniors will be full of confidence after having a tough playoff stage. They overcame all odds having to play back-to-back games after their quarter-final game which ended in a tie against Pickwick Juniors had to be replayed and then the following day they had their semi-final against Co-operative General Insurance St. Catherine Barracudas.
Passage Juniors will be touted as favourites, having played unbeaten. In the semi-finals, they posted the tournament’s highest total of 353 against CounterPoint Wanderers Juniors erasing the previous highest total of 332 which they also scored in 2017.
This will be their second meeting as they both competed in Zone A in the preliminaries. Empire Juniors will be seeking revenge after being defeated by a whopping 171 runs.
Passage Juniors will be pinning their hopes on wicket-keeper/batsman, captain Joshua Morris, fresh off a delightful semi-final knock of 184 not out (the tournament’s highest score; the previous highest being 169 by Limar Pierce in 2012 for Dover Juniors).
Morris has 402 runs including two centuries and is also the leading wicket-keeper with five dismissals (2 catches & 3 stumpings).
Rashad Worrell, who has 459 runs, 18 runs behind leader CounterPoint Wanderers Juniors’ Kamario Grant 477, will also be key to Passage Juniors batting and bowling as he is also the leading wicket-taker with 18.
Micaiah Simmons, another century-maker with 260 runs and Romaine Mayers who has 11 wickets should also feature for their team.
Empire Juniors will be looking to an overall team effort. In the batting department, their captain Nathan Sealy is the team’s leading scorer with 264 which includes a century.
Rodney Greenidge, Dre Springer and Dave Lovell all have half centuries.
Greenidge, who also has 13 wickets, along with Ajani Roach must also step up to the plate.
