URGENT: Now Spartan appeal BCA Complaints & Disputes committee ruling

Bridgetown, Barbados, December 20 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Massy Stores Spartan have appealed the ruling made by the Complaints & Disputes Committee of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) to dismiss their protest in the ninth and last round Elite division three-day Championship match against Police at Weymouth.

A date for the Appeal is to be determined shortly.

The Complaints & Disputes Committee heard the Spartan protest on December 13. It was unanimously dismissed and the decision was announced in a Press release the following day.

Spartan protested the outcome of a no-decision in which not a ball was bowled because of wet conditions on November 12, 19 and 20.

"The Committee after due consideration, unanimously found no merit in and accordingly, dismissed the complaint made by Spartan.

"The points earned by the respective teams for the No-Decision in the said match (November 12, 19 & 20, 2016) will therefore remain," the release said.

Both Spartan and the relegated Police were awarded one point for the match, but Spartan, one of four teams in line to grab the title going into the final round, were adamant that no effort was made by the home team to get the ground in shape for play.

As a result of the ruling on December 13, Brathwaite Construction/Crane Resort St. Catherine were confirmed as champions.

Spartan went into the final round in third position on 85 points and were in line to capture the coveted title, with ICBL Empire, St. Catherine and CounterPoint Wanderers as the other contenders.

As it turned out, St. Catherine demolished Home Improvement/Sierka Rentals Maple by ten wickets inside two days at Trents and there was a draw between Wanderers and Empire at Dayrells Road.

St. Catherine duly ended on 104 points and claimed the title with big celebrations at their Bayfield, St. Philip pavilion on Sunday, November 20.

Empire finished second on 102 points, followed by Wanderers on 92 and Spartan, 86.

Spartan are hoping to earn full 20 points, which would have give them the title by one point over St. Catherine.

There were two other decisions released today in relation to rulings made in matches in the Intermediate division three-day Competition.

The Complaints & Disputes Committee, hereafter referred to as 'the Committee', met on September 29, 2016 to deliberate on a matter (Melrose v Dover) following the BCA Intermediate Zone 'C' Series 4 match scheduled on July 2, 9 & 23, 2016 at the Dover venue.

The Committee unanimously upheld the complaint made by Melrose in which their claim that Dover should forfeit the match as they had failed to discharge their duties under Rules 7 (a) and (b) of the 2016 BCA Special Conditions & Regulations of Play.

Melrose will therefore be awarded the full points for the said match.

The Complaints & Disputes Committee also met on October 5, 2016 to deliberate on a matter (COW Equipment Malvern v Walker Logistics Boscobelle) following the BCA Intermediate Zone 'B' Series 5 match scheduled oin August 6, 13 & 14, 2016 at the Boscobelle venue.

The Committee unanimously dismissed the complaint made by Malvern and further found that Rule 12 of the 2016 BCA Special Conditions & Regulations of Play was breached by Malvern.

Boscobelle will therefore be awarded the full points for the said match.
