G4S Masters limited overs tournament
Parris hits 60 as Banks Wildey beat St. Catherine by 53 runs to capture G4S Masters title
Bridgetown, Barbados, April 6 - (www.bcacricket.org) – Banks Wildey beat Republic Bank St. Catherine by 53 runs to capture the 2014 G4S Masters limited overs title.
Playing at the picturesque Windward ground, Lucas Street, in St. Philip on Saturday, Banks Wildey, lifted by a fine half-century from Gabriel Parris, made 245 for seven off 34 overs after winning the toss.
Set a revised target of 216 from 30 overs after rain intervened, St. Catherine scored 162 for seven to finish as runners-up for the fourth straight season and sixth all told.
In sunny conditions with a few dark clouds hovering around, and with some very vociferous supporters, Player-of-the-Match Parris hit 60 off 73 balls including seven fours.
Banks Wildey had a steady start and gradually increased their momentum, aided mainly by some wayward bowling and fielding.
Parris and Richard Carter put together a 41-run opening partnership before Carter was bowled by Brian Shepherd for 24 off 18 balls, striking three fours and one six.
Deighton Jackman only contributed one before falling to Ian Brathwaite.
With partnerships of 42 between Parris and Wendell Coppin (23) and 56 between Parris and Orion Bostic (42) who wasted no time, the score quickly went to 147 for four, before Parris was caught by Terry Connell off Dave Clarke.
Barry Callender made a quick-fire 36 not out from 25 balls including two fours and a six and was ably assisted by Emmerson Jordan, who smashed the ball around the ground to end up on 19 not out from 11 balls with four boundaries.
St. Catherine had a somewhat sluggish start as they lost wickets at crucial times.
Clarke made 42 from 49 balls with one four and one six.
The only two notable partnerships in the innings were between Clarke and Hophni Sargeant (21) that produced 54 and 41 between Frank Skeete (24) and Thelston Payne (23 not out).
Henry Austin took three for 42 off seven overs.
