URGENT: Play to resume in BCA Sagicor General Super Cup final after rain stoppage, Update 10

Bridgetown, Barbados, December 14 - (www.bcacricket.org) - In what is a landmark agreement at a critical stage in the island's top limited overs championship, CGI Maple and LIME are to continue play after rain forced an early close in the 2013 BCA Sagicor General Super Cup final at Kensington Oval today.

Chasing 190 for victory in 50 overs, Maple were six for one off two overs when rain stopped play at 2.02 p.m. Less than two hours later, there were hopes of a resumption and indeed a conclusion on the same day but another shower prevented any more play.

At 4 o' clock, the captains Renaldo Parris of Maple and Randy Thomas were informed that the match would continue on Sunday, December 15, with Maple to face the remaining 48 overs.

This determination was made by Match referee Mervyn Jones and umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Jonathan Blades, in accordance with International Regulations, "that matches to be played on a Reserve Day, once played on the following day, would continue from where the game left off".

Parris and Thomas, along with team managers Henderson Archer (Maple) and Lana Nurse (LIME) were subsequently summoned to a second meeting to review the published 2013 BCA Rules & Regulations for the Sagicor General Insurance Inc Super Cup.

The teams were read Regulation (20 (d), (a) 2, which states that "in the event that the Final is not determined on the field of play in the first instance the match shall be replayed. If the replay does not produce a result on the field of play the two teams shall be declared Joint Champions and share any monetary and other awards equally".

It was then agreed that the game would continue as previously discussed. However, if there was no winner on the field of play on Sunday, December 15, the game would be replayed on a date to be determined by the BCA.

Agreement was reached with both Management teams, that this recommended course of action would be taken and they would affix their signatures as requested.

It was also pointed out that play on Sunday would resume at 9.30 a.m. with the close at 12.52 p.m.

Resuming for Maple will be veteran Pedro Agard on two and Shane Parris, who is yet to score.

Jamaican left-hander John Campbell was leg before wicket by burly fast bowler Ryan Nurse for nought (2-1; 0.2 overs).

LIME were bowled out for 189 off 48.2 overs after winning the toss.

Thomas topscored with an unbeaten 72 - his highest score in two half-centuries for the tournament - after going to the crease at No. 4. He faced 116 balls and struck two sixes and one four.

The 31-year-old Thomas and all-rounder Ashley Nurse, who made 47 off 64 balls with two fours and two sixes, added 90 in 19 overs for the fourth wicket.

Fast bowler Khalid Springer was the leading wicket-taker with three for 35 off nine overs, while off-spinner Shane Ramsay picked up two for 35 and left-arm spinner Jamar Griffith, two for 44 - both off ten overs.

Amory Holder was bowled off the inside edge by pacer Corey Collymore for nought (1-1; 0.5 overs); Devon Phillips, driving, was given out, caught at the wicket by Collis Worrell off off-spinner Jed Yearwood for two (8-2; 5.3 overs); left-hander Justin Brathwaite, 'fishing' outside the off stump, was caught by Worrell off Springer for 19 (33-3; 12.4 overs); Ashley Nurse was caught at long-off by Yearwood off Griffith (123-4; 31.4 overs); Courtney Browne, sweeping, was leg before wicket by Griffith for eight (143-5; 37.2 overs); Cyprian Payne was caught at square-leg by Don O'neal off Ramsay for two (148-6; 39 overs); Ryan Nurse was bowled by Springer for seven (160-7; 41.4 overs); Hayden Walsh jr was well caught just inside the boundary at extra-cover by Shane Parris off Ramsay for 11 (182-8; 46.2 overs); Michael Agard jr was bowled by Springer for two (186-9; 47.2 overs) and Daley Hurley was run out for one (189 all out; 48.2 overs).
