Wanderers crush Banks Wildey by 162 runs to capture BCA Division 1 title
Bridgetown, Barbados, September 29 - (www.bcacricket.org) - CounterPoint Wanderers will be back next season in the Barbados Cricket Association LIME Elite division after an absence from the top competition since 2010.
Today, they took the First Division title with an emphatic 162-run win over Banks Wildey at Dayrells Road.
The new champions finished on 120 points, five more than their nearest challengers, Premix and Precast Yorkshire who finished on 115 points.
Wanderers’ victory was their fifth of the season, while they had two defeats one draw and one no-decision.
Yorkshire’ s innings and 26-run victory over Carlton inside two days on Saturday meant they were hoping that Banks Wildey would have held Wanderers to a draw. That would have given them their first taste of cricket at the Elite level.
Carlton’s defeat ensured they have been demoted to Intermediate division next season as they came last with 42 points.
Resuming from an overnight 113 for four, Wanderers made 201 for eight declared. Needing a challenging 238 to win, Banks Wildey were for bundled out for a meagre 75.
Left-arm spinner Chad Clarke-Reifer took five for 18 to end with match figures of nine for 70. All told he completed an excellent season bagging 45 wickets.
