Injunction by Maxwell halts Sagicor Shield championship at knockout stage
Bridgetown, Barbados, August 30 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Maxwell Sports Club has filed an injunction in the Supreme Court of Barbados against the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) to stop the playing of the Sagicor General Shield quarter-final between Mount Gay North Stars and Psychiatric Hospital at Pine Basin on Sunday, September 1.
As a consequence, the knockout rounds of this competition slated for September 1, 8 & 15 have been postponed until the issue has been resolved.
On Thursday, July 11, 2013, the BCA received a protest from North Stars Cultural & Social Club indicating that Maxwell had fielded a player who had not been transferred from the Club with which he played in 2012.
Investigations revealed that up to that date no transfer was received by the BCA for that player and in accordance with Regulation #15 of the BCA Special Conditions and Regulations of Play, Maxwell therefore would forfeit the games in which this player competed.
Maxwell then protested and the Complaints & Disputes Committee of the BCA which met to hear the protest unanimously rejected it.
Based on the above, North Stars would top Zone G with 20 points.
