Boucher, Currency put leaders Barbados in command against Leewards, WICB Under-15, Round 4, Day 1
Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 27 – (www.bcacricket.org) – Front-runners Barbados were eyeing their fourth straight win after producing a strong all-round performance to dominate Leeward Islands on the opening day of the fourth round of matches in the West Indies Cricket Board Under-15 championship here.
At the close, Barbados were already 130 runs ahead with nine wickets standings and in the perfection position to make an assault on full points at Warner Park.
Sent in, they were dismissed for 165 with captain Leniko Boucher top-scoring with 39 and Jadeja Edwards getting 24, while Mrinal Wadhwa kept up his good form with four for 55.
The Leewards responded with 118 for eight after being undermined by Deswin Currency, who snared six for 42.
Phillo Wallace hit a top score of 38, Ras Powell got 32 while Tyrone Williams scored 31.
With a lead of 47, Barbados marched to 83 for one with Currency stroking an unbeaten 30 and Boucher, 26 not out.
At Conaree Sports Complex, Guyana were fighting back against Trinidad and Tobago in their second innings after conceding first innings points.
Sent in to bat, Guyana were dismissed for 113 with Travis Persaud getting 39 and Bryan Boodram snatching four for 29 and Keron Persaud claiming three for 20.
Trinidad and Tobago replied with 166 for seven thanks to 35 from Shatrughan Rambaran and an unbeaten 30 from Daniel Williams.
In their second turn at the crease, Persaud was perched on an unbeaten 35 at the close as Guyana reached 72 for one, a lead of 19 runs overall.
Defending champions Jamaica, meanwhile, were making a fist of it against Windward Islands at the Edgar Gilbert Complex.
Asked to bat, they were bowled out for 139 with Javelle Glen hitting 72 and Darel Cyrus taking an outstanding seven for 30.
The Windwards replied with 167 for nine courtesy of Ryan John’s 51, as they secured a first innings lead of 28 runs.
Batting again, Jamaica finished the day on 77 for two with Michael Frew on 45 not out.
