Edwards’ XI set 143 to win after Stoute's 53 helps Dowrich’s XI to 164, 3rd Barbados trial, Day 3, Close
Bridgetown, Barbados, January 29 – (www.bcacricket.org) – Shane Dowrich’s XI, trailing by 22 runs on first innings, were bowled out for 164 in 58.5 overs in their second innings by Kirk Edwards’ XI on a rain-shortened third day of the third Barbados four-day trial match at Pine Basin today.
Kevin Stoute topscored with 53. Batting at No. 5, he occupied the crease for two hours, faced 112 balls and struck three fours and one six before he was leg before wicket by medium-pacer Dwayne Smith.
Stoute and Kyle Hope, who made 25, featured in a fourth wicket partnership of 71.
Hope was caught at the wicket by Jamal Smith off Dwayne Smith. His dismissal triggered a collapse as the last seven wickets tumbled for 58 runs in 18.3 overs.
Medium-pacer Justin Greaves grabbed the last three wickets to be the leading wicket-taker with three for 17 off 7.5 overs.
Pacer Javon Searles took two for 14, Dwayne Smith, two for 23 and left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn, two for 34.
Rain allowed only 43 minutes’ play between lunch and tea during which there were four interruptions.
Play resumed after tea at 3.10 p.m and the innings ended at 5.13.
Edwards’ XI require 143 for victory tomorrow.
Earlier, starting the day on 209 for nine, Edwards’ XI were bowled out for 224 in 96.1 overs in reply to Dowrich’s XI first innings total of 202.
All-rounder Kenroy Williams, who resumed on 34, was caught at third slip by Roston Chase off pacer Christopher Jordan for 40, leaving Jomel Warrican unbeaten on 12 from his overnight score of three. The pair batted for 28 minutes this morning in stretching their stand to 30.
Shamarh Brooks was topscorer with 65.
Fast bowler Tino Best, who did not bowl today, finished with the best figures of four for 21 off 12 overs.
Left-arm spinner Derick Bishop picked up two for 27 and Jordan, two for 31.
The match is in preparation for the West Indies first-class championship, which opens February 3.
