Barbados romp to semis after beating Windwards by 39 runs, WICB T20, Match 8
Bridgetown, Barbados, July 25 – (www.bcacricket.org) – Barbados beat Windward Islands by 39 runs in Match 8 (Zone B) of the 2010 West Indies Cricket Board Caribbean Twenty20 championship at Kensington Oval here tonight to advance to the semi-finals as leaders of the zone with one match remaining.
Guyana, who earlier defeated Combined Campuses & Colleges by four wickets, are the other semi-finalists from the zone.
Both Barbados and Guyana are on eight points with Barbados having a better Net Run Rate. They will clash in Trinidad on Thursday to determine the winners of the zome.
Set 160 for victory, Windwards were restricted to 120 for nine 20 overs.
Left-hander Devon Smith was caught at point by Dwayne Smith off left-arm spinner Ryan Hinds for two (14-1; 2.2 overs); Johnson Charles was run out by Jonathan Carter by way of a throw to the bowler’s end for 15 (34-2; 5.2); Andre Fletcher was leg before wicket by off-spinner Ashley Nurse as he played across a low full toss for 33 off 17 balls with three fours and one six (51-3; 6.4 overs); left-hander Liam Sebastien was bowled as he essayed an ambitious drive off Nurse for one (58-4; 8.3 overs); captain Darren Sammy (16) pulled a short ball from pacer Javon Searles into the hands of deep square-leg in Dwayne Smith (80-5; 12.3 overs) Rawl Lewis was bowled on the back foot by tall, left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn for one (84-6; 14); Shane Shillingford, backing away to drive was bowled leg stump by Searles for nought (85-7; 14.3 overs); Craigg Emmanuel sliced Searles to short third man in Alcindo Holder (88-8; 14.5 overs) and Gairy Mathurin (12), swinging at Searles, edged a regulation catch to wicket-keeper Carlo Morris (118-9; 18.5 overs).
The not out batsmen were Deighton Butler on 12 and Nelson Pascal, five.
Fast bowler Javon Searles took four for 19.
Barbados scored 159 for six off 20 overs after they were sent in.
Holder topscored with 46 not out off 23 bslls, slamming five boundaries and three sixes to win the man-of-the-match award.
Medium-pacer Emmanuel was the leading wicket-taker with three for 14 off three overs.
Dale Richards was caught at third man by Charles off Emmanuel for 29 (36-1; 6.1 overs); his opening partner, debutant Jason Hinds was run out for ten (56-2; 10.1 overs); captain Ryan Hinds was caught at long-on by Deighton Butler off pacer Nelon Pascal for 3 (81-3; 12.4 overs); Jonathan Carter was bowled by off-spinner Shillingford for 26 (82-4; 13.1 overs); Dwayne Smith was caught by wicket-keeper Fletcher off Emmanuel for 24 (146-5; 18.3) and Carlo Morris was brilliantly caught on the long-on boundary by Sebatien off Emmanuel for nought (147-6; 18.4).
Nurse was not out on two.

The not out batsmen were Gary Mathurin on one and Deighton Butler, nought.

Bridgetown, Barbados, July 25 – (www.bcacricket.org) – Windward Islands won the toss and put Barbados in to bat in Match 8 (Zone B) of the 2010 West Indies Cricket Board Caribbean Twenty20 championship at Kensington Oval here this evening.
Play is scheduled to start at 6.30 p.m. (East Caribbean time).
Over 4 000 spectators are already at the ground, making it the biggest crowd so far in the eight-team tournament.
Barbados made two changes to the side which beat Combined Campuses & Colleges in a thriller here on Friday.
Batsman Kirk Edwards is ill and his West Indies ‘A’ tea-mate, all-rounder Kevin Stoute has been dropped.
Making his debut is all-rounder Jason Hinds, the 25-year brother of captain Ryan Hinds. The other player in is fast bowler Javon Searles.
