CCC bring in Raymon Reifer for Walton for Day/Nigh match against Leewards

Bridgetown, Barbados, February 25 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Raymon Reifer, another in the growing list of the well-known Reifer cricketing family from Barbados, has been named in the Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) 13-man squad for the seventh and last round regional Day/Night first-class match against Leeward Islands at Beausejour in Gros Islet, Lucia, starting Friday, February 26.

Left-hander Reifer, 19, replaces Jamaican wicket-keeper/batsman Chadwick Walton, who played in all of CCC’s other matches this season. He is now the eighth Barbadian in the squad.

Reifer scored a century in the CCC trials in late December and since then has often been in the nets at the 3Ws Oval. He played for the Barbados Under-19 team in the last two seasons and is the cousin of CCC captain and coach Floyd Reifer, a veteran batsman and former West Indies captain.

Raymon Reifer is a son of Elvis Reifer, a left-arm fast bowling all-rounder who played at the first-class level for Barbados in 1986 and also represented Hampshire in the English County championship.

Elvis Reifer’s twin brother, George, and another brother, Leslie, both batsmen, also played for Barbados in the then Shell Shield championship in the 1980s while yet another brother, Tony, was a Barbados Colts batsman in the 1960s.

In announcing the squad, CCC named versatile Barbadian all-rounder Jamal Smith as the wicket-keeper. Six-footer Smith played his first match of the season as a batsman in the fifth round (Day/Night) against title holders Jamaica at Providence in Guyana. He also bowls off-spin.

Barbados completed their season as leaders in the championship race with 57 points. Jamaica, the only other title contenders, are second on 48, followed by Trinidad & Tobago, 33; CCC 24; Leeward Islands, 22; Guyana, 19; and Windward Islands, 16.

The other two matches in the final round are being played in Grenada: Guyana v Windward Islands at National Stadium, St. George’s and Trinidad & Tobago v Jamaica at Progress Park, St. Andrew’s.

CCC squad: Floyd Reifer (captain), Omar Phillips, Kyle Corbin, Raymon Reifer, Jamal Smith (wicket-keeper), Ryan Austin, Kevin McClean, Khismar Catlin (Barbados), Romel Currency (St. Vincent & the Grenadines), Gilford Moore (Guyana). Kjorn Ottley, Kavesh Kantasingh (Trinidad & Tobago), Gavin Wallace (Jamaica),

Manager: Horton Dolphin; Assistant Manager: Steven R Leslie; Assistant Coach/Fast Bowling Consultant: Corey Collymore; Physiotherpaist/Trainer: Andrew Simpson.
