Jamaica 65-4 in 2nd Innings v Barbados - WICB first-class championship, Round 6, Day 2, Update 18, Close

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, February 20 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Jamaica, with a deficit of 67 on first innings, were 65 for four off 36 overs in their second innings – still two runs in arrears with six wickets standing - at the close of play on the second day of the regional sixth round top-of-the-table match against Barbados at the Sir Frank Worrell ground, St. Augustine here today.

The not out batsmen were captain Tamar Lambert on four and Carlton Baugh, 11.

Veteran left-arm swing bowler Pedro Collins took the first two wickets - Danza Hyatt, who was caught by wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich for two (10-1) and Donovan Pagon, caught at second slip by Sulieman Benn for three (19-2). Both batsmen were essaying drives.

Then first innings destroyer, seamer Corey Edwards, lured Nkrumah Bonner into driving a catch to mid-off in Tino Best after scoring eight (44-3).

And West Indies left-arm spinner removed Brenton Parchment for 28 by way of a catch to gully in captain Ryan Hinds (47-4).

Earlier, from an overnight 113 for one, Barbados were bowled out for 293 off 81.3 overs in reply to Jamaica’s first innings total of 226 all out on the stroke of tea.

Today, Barbados lost the overnight pair of Dale Richards and Jason Haynes in quick succession. Left-hander Haynes, who resumed on 23, was leg before wicket on the backfoot by leg-spinner Bonner for 24 (117-2) and Richards, 63 at the start, was given out caught down the leg-side by wicket-keeper Baugh, also off Bonner for 67 (126-3). Richards gave the impression that the ball came off his pad.

Then after a partnership of 63, Hinds was caught at mid-wicket by Jason Dawes off fast bowler Andrew Richardson for 34 (189-4). Richardson had just replaced leg-spinner Odean Brown from the Pavilion end.

And on the stroke of lunch Kevin Stoute was bowled leg stump by an inswinger from medium-pacer David Bernard for six (196-5).

Last evening, Kraigg Brathwaite was caught and bowled by off-spinner Lambert for 20 (56-1).

Jamaica could have been in a better position this morning but a couple crucial chances went abegging. Hinds was dropped on four at long-off by Brown off Lambert with the score 122 for two and Kirk Edwards was mistumped off the same bowler when two with the score 139 for three.
