Former WI players Daniel and Payne in Princess Margaret Twenty20 night match on August 21
August 20 - (www.bcacricket.org) - Former West Indies players Wayne Daniel and Thelston Payne are among a number of ex-Barbados youth and first-class cricketers who will be on show in the inaugural Princess Margaret School Twenty20 Night match on Friday, August 21, at the school’s playing field, Six Roads, St Philip.
Daniel made his mark as a big, strong genuinely quick bowler, once nicknamed Zepher, while Payne, a left-hand batsman and wicket-keeper, is still active in the BCA Division 1 championship for title holders BNB St. Catherine, which he has represented since their first year at that level in 1978.
The 52-year-old Payne, who is also the St. Catherine coach, has scored over 12 000 First division runs including 18 centuries.
The match which starts at 7:30 p.m. will be contested for the Tim Weekes Memorial Trophy and features an Over 40s team led by Payne and an Under-40s, captained by BRC BCL Division 1 batting all-rounder Sean Armstrong, who has scored two centuries this season. Armstrong is a former Barbados player.
In the Under-40s team is wicket-keeper/batsman Patrick Browne, who has played a few One-Day Internationals for West Indies, while another wicket-keeper/batsman Livingstone Puckerin, who represented Barbados at the first-class level, is in the Over-40s side, along with national Under-19 team coach Dexter Toppin, who is another player with first-class experience in South Africa and former West Indies Under-19 fast bowler Wendell Coppin.
