Bridgetown, Barbados, May 4 (www.bcacricket.org) - Four Barbados first-class players and one national Twenty20 representative are included in the CGI Maple 14-squad for the West Indies Players (WIPA) Twenty20 Club Champions League 2009 tournament in Trinidad from May 8 to 17 at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.
They are batsman Kirk Edwards, fast bowlers Kemar Roach and Barrington Yearwood and off-spinner Shane Ramsay, all of whom played in the recent WICB championship, along with medium-fast bowling all-rounder Khalid Springer, who was a member of the Barbados Twenty20 team in last year’s Stanford championship.
Former Barbados fast bowler Emmerson Jordan is coach of the team.
Maple won the inaugural Sagicor General Twenty20 championship last season under the captaincy of Springer.
Team manager Barrington Yearwood snr told the BCA website this morning that a captain for the WIPA tournament is to be named tonight – 24 hours ahead of Maple’s departure to Trinidad.
Edwards, who led Barbados in the last round of the WICB first-class championship against Guyana, was later appointed captain with Yearwood jnr as vice-captain. Both will also serve in those positions for the 2009 BCA domestic season, which starts May 9.
